Case Background

On March 11, 2020, Modell's Sporting Goods, Inc. and thirteen affiliated debtors (collectively, the "Debtors") each filed a voluntary petition for relief under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey.  The cases are pending before the Honorable Vincent F. Papalia, and are jointly administered under Case No. 20-14179.

Important Information & Dates

 

Plan and Disclosure Statement

On October 8, 2020, the Debtors filed their First Amended Joint Plan of Liquidation and the Disclosure Statement related thereto. Also on October 8, 2020, the Bankruptcy Court entered an order approving, among other things, the Disclosure Statement on an interim basis and authorizing the Debtors to provide notice of their intent to seek confirmation of the Plan. On November 13, 2020, the Bankruptcy Court entered an order that approved the Disclosure Statement on a final basis and confirmed the Plan. The Effective Date of the Plan occurred on December 1, 2020.

Deadline to File Claims

The Bankruptcy Court has set the following deadlines for filing proofs of claim against the Debtors:

  • General Bar Date: October 30, 2020, at 4:00 p.m. (ET)
  • Governmental Bar Date: October 30, 2020, at 4:00 p.m. (ET)

First Day Hearing

A hearing on the Debtors' First Day Motions was held on March 13, 2020 before the Honorable Vincent F. Papalia, in Courtroom 3B of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey, 50 Walnut Street, Third Floor, Newark, New Jersey 07102. 

The final hearing on certain of the First Day Motions previously scheduled for April 6, 2020, was held on June 23, 2020.
